The Mount Zina is located in the west of the country, not far from the border with DRC. The site is constituted by a high plateau with several peaks such Muhanza or Bihembe (1512 m). It offers impressive panoramic views. From the top of Mount Zina, one can admire the Rusizi river to the west bordering Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo. To the east one can see the hills of Bubanza and Musigati and the Kibira National Park. Mount Zina also shelters a sanctuary of Kirima – a political and military leader whose popularity came from his fierce opposition to the King of Burundi in the 19th century. There are 5 games of trictrac (Ikibuguzo) dug in the rocks and which are believed to have belonged to Kirima are still visible. The Mount Zina offers possibilities of hiking, trekking and photography.
