Birime is a range of mountains found in the eastern part of Burundi. The chain holds the provinces of Ruyigi and Cankuzo in its embrace. The top of Mount Birime, the highest and most spectacular of all, is in the Mubavu area, Bweru Commune in Ruyigi Province. From this very top, a magnificent view is offered to the visitor who can contemplate successively the regions of Bunyuro and the valley of the Sanzu river to the East as well as the panorama of the basin of Kayongozi to the West. A little further, it is possible to also see the urban center of Ruyigi in the south and that of Cankuzo in the north, from this point. Mount Birime and its summit is well indicated for hiking, walking, picnics and photography.
