The Rusizi Natural Reserve is a wonderful tourist attraction. It has several advantages: it is very close to the city of Bujumbura, the access by road is very smooth and it is not overcrowded. The reserve has a very rich vegetation and many species of birds can be found on the site. The reserve covers both the provinces of Bubanza and Bujumbura with a surface of 5932 ha divided into the palm grove and the delta. The real tourist interest lies in the observation of fake palm trees with 1000 different species. It is a grassy savannah area with acacia trees. The delta area is home to a wide variety of around 350 sedentary and migratory bird species. Hippos and crocodiles from Lake Tanganyika can be see from some observatory stations.
