The site “Agasumo ka Mwaro” is located in Kayokwe Commune, Mwaro Province. Even if we talk about a fall, it is actually about four small waterfalls of the Kayokwe river. These falls are more known to the public for their sacred dimension. Indeed, they are a sought-after place in the cult of “Kubandwa”, a cult that was celebrated in ancient Burundi. This site was referred to as a place where the Burundian god lived (“Iwabo w’Imana y’i Burundi”). The public went there to implore divine favors like good health and prosperity. A trail makes it possible for hiking along the watercourse downstream of the falls before reaching a turfed area very remarkable for its beauty, where one can quietly make a picnic.
